What are the three phases of Sade Sati?

Is Sade Sati always bad?

No. Saturn is the planet of discipline, structure, patience and work. For many people it is a demanding but constructive stretch that rewards steady effort.

What is Dhaiya or small panoti?

Dhaiya is Saturn transiting the 4th sign from your Moon (Kantaka Shani) or the 8th (Ashtama Shani). Each lasts about two and a half years. It is not Sade Sati, though the two are often talked about together. This calculator shows your current and upcoming Dhaiya periods alongside Sade Sati.

Why do Sade Sati dates differ between websites?

Three common reasons. Different ayanamsas shift Saturn's sign changes by days or even months (we use Lahiri). Some sites print a fixed table that ignores retrograde loops, while we run each period from Saturn's first entry to its final exit. And Sade Sati is counted from the Moon sign, not the Sun sign, so a Sun-sign answer will not match.

How we calculate this

Saturn's position is read from the Swiss Ephemeris for every day from 40 years ago to 35 years ahead, at 12:00 IST, on the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa. Your Moon sign comes from your birth chart computed the same way.

  • Sade Sati: Saturn in the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from your Moon sign. Rising, peak and setting phases start on Saturn's first entry into each sign.
  • A period runs from the first entry into its first sign to the final exit from its last sign. Retrograde dips back and forth are part of the same period.
  • Dhaiya: Saturn in the 4th (Kantaka) or 8th (Ashtama) sign from your Moon, timed the same way.
  • Dates are accurate to the day. Everyone with the same Moon sign shares the same dates.

The same birth details always give the same result, and nothing here is generated text.
